Give them 50 pesos and they will then leave you alone. Entertainment OK (not paying to watch other guests karoake or be Miss Riu as the main entertainment)Rooms were about a North American 3 star (e.g Holiday Inn express).
Not sure if we will ever go back to Cabo or the Riu Santa Fe as it was a good time, but we like places like Playa Del Carmen and Maui better. Hotel rooms, grounds and common areas were very clean. No drink or food service comes by when at the pool or beach. We had to move rooms from building 4 after first night of constant noise and partying of other guests in the halls and outside.
Jan2011 stayed at the Palace for a 1 week stay which gave us full access to the Santa Fe so we visited.
The Santa Fe is still as pretty, maintained to a very high standard of cleanliness, abundance of food/drink options & great location. My complaint is with the people who were staying there.
From our arrival the staff were very friendly to us, and it was nice to be able to chat to the managers who were also very helpful. Heard several other people complaining about noise and late night partying. They were few choices to keep two rooms together and allowed us to go see the available rooms before moving.
We were worried about eating out during the holiday weekend and were pleased beyond any of our hopes.
Not sure why the hotel insists on reservations and even when my wife asked to change our time on the Asian a half hour earlier, was told no, BUT we show up there, they are letting others in without reservations and the place is half empty. The grounds are very well kept, pools are nice, the staff are very friendly and the night shows, while a bit on the cheesy side, were entertaning.
As we are older and out of the party phase, we did find a huge push for drinking and rowdy behaviour, mainly the younger folks that want to go down to Mexico, get wasted day and night and be loud, but that is what this country attracts.
Had to call security after a fight going on in room above us. Expect a visit from guitar playing band at your table who say they play for tips. You have to walk about 1 km to a safe area to swim in the ocean.
New Year's buffet was good, No problem getting into restaurants. We did the wave runners from Scuba Carib from the hotel (you pay more, but newest and safest on the beach), did the sierra buggy tour (highly recommend), and water taxi to Lover's Beach via Scuba Carib ( p person) and cab into Cabo was ( each way for 4 people).
Minor complaint at times the staff were too efficient in clearning things up when we were not done, but I guess with so many people at the resort, they need to keep it movng.
